Ceremonia de transplante de Beaucarnea Recuverata en la Universidad de Pretoria

La Embajada de México en Sudáfrica en colaboración con la Sociedad Dendrológica de SA y la #UniversityofPretoria inauguraron la ceremonia de replantación de un espécimen de 2 toneladas de Beaucarnea Recurvata, una especie nativa de México en peligro crítico. La planta fue donada por el Sr. Olivier Naas. A través de este evento, México trabaja en el desarrollo de la conservación de la biodiversidad a través de la cooperación internacional.

The Embassy of Mexico in South Africa in collaboration with the Dendrological Society of SA & the #UniversityofPretoria inaugurated the replanting ceremony of a 2-ton specimen of Beaucarnea Recurvata, a critically endangered species native of Mexico. The plant was donated by Mr Olivier Naas. Through this event Mexico works on developing biodiversity conservation through international cooperation.

Through this event, Mexico is grateful for all cooperation to develop effective conservation tools. The Beaucarnea Recurvata will be a biodiversity & cultural ambassador of MX that will portray the link between MX & SA beyond the political bilateral relations. #SouthSouthCooperation #peopletopeoplecooperation

The Beaucarnea recurvata is commonly known as ponytail palm in SA & pata de elefante (elephant´s foot) in MX. It is native from the Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz & San Luis Potosí.

It was transplanted on 6 September 2021 to commemorate Arbor Month in South Africa.
